Now you can take your hunter safety course online!
It's hard to imagine walking through the crisp fall woods on a cool November day when it's 90 degrees and humid outside. The truth is, however, that summer is almost over and hunting season will be here before you know it.So if you're a new hunter or your friends are thinking about getting into hunting now is the time to find a hunter education or bowhunter education class near you. A list of scheduled classes can be found on the DEC Sportsman Education Class Schedule.
I've had some recent emails from new hunters who are looking to take a sportsman education class, but can't find a time when a class is in session and they aren't working. For those who can't find a course on their time, don't worry, you have other options!
Similar to taking a defensive driver course online you can now take your hunter safety course online as well. HunterCourse.com, for example, allows you to take a state approved safety course on your time and at your pace. The best part is that it's not just for New York. You can be in California and type in California Hunter Safety Course and sign up right away. For $25 you can review course materials, take an online test and print out your certificate once you pass the course. All that's left is to buy a hunting license in your state and you're in the woods!
With the way things are these days it's great to know there are options when it comes to things like taking your hunter safety course. Hopefully, with more tools like this, we can recruit more hunters into are sport by making it easier to get involved.

ReplyDeletehey mark, I know this article,s a few months old now but i took the online huntered course and the online bow hunter course. So are you saying that all i have to do now is take the printed page to my local gun shop and i can purchase a hunting license??
ReplyDeleteI haven't taken the online course myself, but all you should need is the hunter ed certificate showing you completed the course. With that certificate you can buy a hunting license at a sporting goods store or on the DEC website through the DECALS system: https://nyfgisales.appsolgrp.com/fgnyia/html/index.jsp
