December 31st marked the close of the 2009 Archery Season in New York. Many of us braved the elements and hunted hard in hopes to connect with a big New York buck. Personally, I spent more time afield this season than I was ever able to before, in part because of a new job that allowed me more vacation time. I made sure to take advantage of every opportunity I had and although I didn't kill a buck this season, I enjoyed every minute of it.
So here are the winner's of the 2009 NYBowhunter.com Deer Hunting Contest! Congratulations to all of our winners. Their deer are the result of countless hours of preparation and I'd like to thank them and everyone else for participating in this year's contest.
"bbd" took the Brow Tine Monster in Long Island as the brute trailed a doe in heat by his stand. He knows what it takes to find big bucks and puts them down year after year.
"fletchny" took this beautiful buck on Halloween. After passing up several young bucks and having to deal with dogs chasing deer away, he was finally able to connect with this nice 8 pointer with a kicker.
"autumnrush" is not only a great hunter, but an incredible photographer. This giant 7 pointer came running in to a rattling and grunting sequence giving the archer an easy 20 yard shot.
It was the morning of November 7th when "jpm5107" saw this monster buck working towards him with his nose to the ground. At 30 yards he used a doe bleat to stop the buck and watched as the deer went down in sight.
"ath110" had different plans for the season. With the over population of whitetail deer in the suburbs he made an effort to practice some quality deer management and took four big does out of the herd.
Congratulations again to all of our participants this season and hope you join in on the next NYBowhunter.com Contest!
